Rock Physics Lead

Dr. Julian Yao is a Rock Physics Lead at TEVERRA leading the CCS efforts including CO2 plume modeling and monitoring projects. He is a rock physics and geomechanics expert with more than ten years of academic research experience and six years of industry consulting experience. He earned a BSc in Physics from Nanjing University, an MSc in Physics from Sam Houston State University, and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Houston. His research activities range from fundamental poroelasticity theory, fluid effects in inhomogeneous porous media, seismic dispersion and attenuation, and hydrocarbon fluid properties, to geomechanical applications, like wellbore stability, sand production prevention, and 3D reservoir geomechanical modeling. He also has expertise in developing complex lab equipment for experimental rock physics studies. He is an active reviewer for Geophysics, Geophysical Prospecting, Applied Geophysics, Journal of Applied Geophysics, Journal of Earth Science, and Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering.
