On June 16, 2025, Teverra’s Founder and CEO, Dr. Hamed Soroush, was spoke at the prestigious Energy Asia conference on a panel titled “Unlocking the Potential of Geothermal Energy in Asia.” The session brought together international thought leaders including John Anis (President Director, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk), Gurbuz Gonul (Director at the International Renewable Energy Agency – IRENA), and moderator Nick Sharma (Asia-Pacific Regional Director, S&P Global).
Despite Asia’s estimated 127 terawatts of technical geothermal potential, the region remains significantly underdeveloped in this sector. For example, Indonesia—home to some of the world’s richest geothermal resources—has utilized only 2.5 GW of its estimated 25+ GW capacity. The panelists agreed: the obstacle isn’t the availability of resources, but rather the supporting ecosystem.
During the panel, Dr. Soroush emphasized several key priorities to drive geothermal development across Asia:
Implementation of smarter policies to reduce exploration risk,
Innovative technologies for faster and more affordable drilling and production,
Creative funding models and stronger government support to attract investment,
Expanded direct-use applications of geothermal energy in agriculture, industry, heating, and cooling.
He also shared Teverra’s commitment to enabling the energy transition through solutions that de-risk geothermal projects and accelerate deployment—not just for power generation but also for sustainable thermal energy applications and energy storage.
“Geothermal is a clean, baseload energy source that can offer the resiliency Asia needs in its transition away from fossil fuels,” said Dr. Soroush. “We must stop overlooking this critical resource. With the right partnerships and leadership, geothermal can take its rightful place at the center of Asia’s energy future.”
Teverra remains dedicated to supporting governments, private developers, and communities in building the future of energy—one project at a time.
