Teverra had a commanding presence at the AAPG-SEG IMAGE 2025 conference in Houston last week. The company demonstrated its ongoing commitment to enabling a low-carbon future by unveiling new solutions, sharing scientific insights, and co-hosting knowledge-sharing forums that align with its vission of “Leading the way in optimal subsurface utilization to power the future of energy.”
Cold-ResStor™: Earth-Powered Cooling for the Digital Age
At the center of Teverra’s IMAGE 2025 presence was the debut of Cold-ResStor™, a game-changing thermal energy storage technology designed to enable smarter, cleaner, and more efficient cooling for buildings, data centers, and industrial infrastructure.
Presented by Teverra CEO, Dr. Hamed Soroush, at the prestigious New Technology Showcase, Cold-ResStor™ leverages shallow subsurface formations to store and release thermal energy—producing cold when it is most energy-efficient to do so, and recovering it when outdoor temperature peaks. This strategic shift in thermal load not only reduces overall power demand for cooling but also significantly cuts emissions, even in power grids that are still fossil-fuel-based.
“Cooling accounts for a growing share of global electricity use—especially in data-driven economies. Cold-ResStor offers a breakthrough solution by aligning thermal storage cycles with both economic and environmental needs,” said Dr. Soroush. “It’s not just about cooling more efficiently—it’s about redefining how we use the earth to manage energy intelligently.”
Cold-ResStor™ is designed with scalability and integration in mind, allowing for deployment in both new and retrofit applications. With the ability to buffer peak demand and reduce grid strain, the system is ideally suited for smart buildings, digital infrastructure, and energy-intensive industrial settings.
GeoDeck Powers Real-Time Subsurface Monitoring
At the Carbon Management Pavilion, Teverra’s Rock Physics Lead, Dr. Qiuliang Yao, delivered a compelling talk titled “Timely Subsurface Monitoring: A Critical Need for Widespread Utilization of Subsurface.” He presented GeoDeck™, Teverra’s AI-powered monitoring solution that enables near real-time tracking of CO₂ plume evolution in CCS operations.
Unlike traditional workflows that may take months to interpret seismic data, GeoDeck™ dramatically compresses the time from acquisition to insight—empowering operators to act within days or even hours. Dr. Yao also joined a panel discussion on “Software for the Long Game: Visualization and Databases for CCS Projects,” highlighting the pivotal role of integrated data platforms in long-duration carbon storage monitoring.
Building Geothermal Expertise for the Next Generation
Teverra’s Geothermal Lead, Emilie Gentry, contributed to the Short Course “Exploration and development aspects of geothermal energy” at IMAGE 2025, where she taught the Subsurface Exploration and Structural Modeling module. Joined by leading experts from academia and industry, Gentry shared practical insights into geothermal resource characterization and development.
Her involvement underscores Teverra’s dedication to advancing the geothermal sector and equipping the next generation of professionals with the technical skills needed to expand renewable energy solutions worldwide.
Teverra and MicroSeismic Host Post-Convention Workshop
Rounding out its strong presence, Teverra LLC partnered with MicroSeismic Inc to co-organize a post-convention workshop titled “Advances in Subsurface Characterization, Fractures, and Geomechanics.” The session brought together experts from academia and industry to share cutting-edge tools and workflows aimed at improving subsurface understanding for carbon storage, geothermal development, and unconventional oil and gas operations.
The workshop reflected Teverra’s broader goal of accelerating knowledge transfer and technical collaboration within the geoscience and energy innovation communities.
“At IMAGE 2025, we not only showcased new technologies, we reinforced our commitment to shaping the energy future through knowledge, partnerships, and subsurface intelligence,” said Dr. Soroush. “Whether it’s smarter cooling with Cold-ResStor™ or faster CCS decision-making with GeoDeck™, Teverra is focused on practical innovation that delivers real impact.”
Teverra remains a proud supporter of SEG and AAPG events like IMAGE, recognizing their vital role in convening thought leaders and advancing the global energy dialogue.
